On Positive Harris Recurrence of Multiclass Queueing Networks: A Unified Approach Via Fluid Limit Models
نویسنده
چکیده
It is now known that the usual traffic condition (the nominal load being less than one at each station) is not sufficient for stability for a multiclass open queueing network. Although there has been some progress in establishing the stability conditions for a multiclass network, there is no unified approach to this problem. In this paper, we prove that a queueing network is positive Harris recurrent if the corresponding fluid limit model eventually reaches zero and stays there regardless of the initial system configuration. As an application of the result, we prove that single class networks, multiclass feedforward networks and first-buffer-first-served preemptive resume discipline in a re-entrant line are positive Harris recurrent under the usual traffic condition. متن کاملStability of Open Multiclass Queueing Networks via Fluid Models
This paper surveys recent work on the stability of open multiclass queueing networks via fluid models. We recapitulate the stability result of Dai [8]. To facilitate study of the converse of the stability result, we distinguish between the notion of fluid limit and that of fluid solution. We define the stability region of a service discipline and the global stability region of a network. Exampl...
متن کاملA Lyapunov view on positive Harris recurrence of multiclass queueing networks
In this paper we prove the positive Harris recurrence of the underlying Markov process of a multiclass queueing network. Using the fact that under certain conditions the stability of a fluid network is equivalent to the existence of a continuous Lyapunov function, we propose a new method to conclude that the underlying Markov process is positive Harris recurrent if the associated fluid network ...
متن کاملRecurrence and transience properties of some neural networks: an approach via fluid limit models
The subject of the paper is the stability analysis of some neural networks consisting of a nite number of interacting neurons. Based on the uid limit model of the network we derive a suucient condition for positive Harris-recurrence of the associated Markov process. We further show that this condition is also necessary and derive in addition an alternative condition suucient for transience. We ...
متن کاملA Fluid-Limit Model Criterion for Instability of Multiclass Queueing Networks
This paper studies the instability of multiclass queueing networks. We prove that if a uid limit model of the queueing network is weakly unstable, then the queueing network is unstable in the sense that the total number of customers in the queueing network diverges to innnity with probability one as time t ! 1. Our result provides a converse to a recent result of Dai 2] which states that a queu...
